Project Overview
We know that we had to create a solution to help in engaging NHS commissioners in understanding influenza as an underestimated threat and highlighting the benefits of using their vaccine to realise the benefits achievable. We did just that by identifying data sources and the messages they contained. Once this data had been analysed and adapted by our data scientist, we constructed a powerful tool culminating in a series of interactive dashboards that not only captured the impact felt by the NHS but allowed the intended audience to interact with the data to customise the potential reductions in cost and social impact.
The challenges
• Difficulty engaging NHS commissioners on the underestimated threat of influenza.
• Limited awareness of the broader cost and social impact of influenza on the healthcare system.
• Need to clearly demonstrate the value of a specific vaccine amidst competing priorities.
• Lack of accessible, tailored data tools to support evidence-based decision-making.
• Complexity in translating raw data into compelling, actionable insights for commissioners.
Our Solution
We developed a solution to support engagement with NHS commissioners by reframing influenza as an underestimated but serious healthcare threat. Our goal was to highlight the tangible benefits of using the vaccine and demonstrate its potential impact.
To achieve this, we identified relevant data sources and extracted key messages. Our data scientist analysed and refined this data, which formed the foundation of a powerful tool: a series of interactive dashboards. These dashboards visualised the burden of influenza on the NHS and enabled users to explore customised scenarios, showcasing potential reductions in cost and social impact. This interactive, evidence-led approach empowered commissioners to make more informed decisions.
